Get ready America because the new British Invasion of comedy has arrived.
Billy D. Washington - Sept 3, 4
“Low-key intensity and dead on humor” is how the Denver Post described Billy D. Washington. His clever but quirky approach combined with his undeniable skill as a pianist has made Washington a formidable force in the world of stand-up. After a 5-year stint as a Houston Police Officer, he followed his heart, took to the stage and has since assembled an impressive body of work for this part-time church musician and full-time national headliner. Billy has been featured at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival twice, Aspen Comedy Festival and for 3 years traveled with The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, as her opening act. He has also appeared on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and spent time on VH-1 as a host and on-air personality. He is the creator of the critically acclaimed S.E.L.L.O.U.T. Comedy Tour, a group of talented black comedians who challenge America to resolve racial differences one joke at a time.
Tom Rhodes - Sept 9, 10, 11
It is his biological function to make people laugh and forget about their problems. It started when he was a boy when his parents argued ferociously he would act silly or say absurd things and there would be peace in their house for a brief period. It has been his dream to be a stand-up comedian since he was 12. And with a fake ID, he started when he was 17 and have done no other job since. His hands are as soft as a baby's bottom for lack of hard labor in his life. He's been luckier than most having his own sitcom on NBC and hosting his own late night talk show in Amsterdam for 2 years. He thinks nothing is more powerful than the written word and monumental ideas for world solutions expressed through comedy. He believes that all we have in this world is the art we leave behind after we are dead, and that no other measurement can sum up a life's worth. He believes it's also possible to change someone's life for the better by just showing them a drop of kindness. His goal in life is to make people piss their pants with laughter. Jim Jeffries - Sept 16, 17 (Rated RRR, May Be Offensive)
Australian born Jim Jeffries is a headline performer in countries including USA, Canada, India, Bahrain, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, South Africa, Sweden, Singapore, Dubai, Norway, France, Holland and the UK. Regarded as one of comedy’s fastest rising stars for stage and screen, his brash confrontational style has made him one of the most sought after comics on the world stage. Jim succeeds with jokes that most comedians wouldn’t touch with an ability to both charm and offend the crowd in equal measure. In 2005 Jim wowed audiences at The Montreal Just for Laughs Festival where he performed in the highly acclaimed Nasty Show and garnered one of the biggest press articles at the festival and was asked to return back in 2007 with his solo show The Second Coming which sold out every night and had ticket touts selling his tickets at 3 times face value. Last year (2007) Jim turned 30 and it wasn’t an easy year. He has narrowly avoided bombs in Iraq (where he was performing), punched in the face at The Comedy Store in Manchester (with the video clip being seen by over 8 million people over the Internet). If that’s not enough he also had a cancerous tumor removed from his penis and this year notoriously took on the Obsournes.
Off the back of two very successful Montreal and Edinburgh shows Jim is now touring the US (LA, San Francisco, Kansas City, Miami, Arlington, Chicago, Boston, Sacramento, Cleveland, Philadelphia and also opened for Dennis Leary at the 2800-capacity Beacon Theatre during the New York Comedy Festival).
It’s not all about live work though. Jim is in demand for TV and panel TV shows alike and you can catch Jim on Have I Got News For You (BBC1 & 2), Never Mind the Buzzcocks (BBC2), Comedy Cuts 1 & 2 (ITV2) and Comedy Blue (Paramount). You can catch Jim hosting the US NME Awards.
